AFCON-Bound Adams and Ejuke Score as Sevilla Beat Real Oviedo

Super Eagles forwards Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were both on target as Sevilla recorded a comfortable win over Real Oviedo, just days before the duo report for international duty ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Akor Adams opened the scoring in the fourth minute after being set up by Lucien Agoumé. The Nigerian striker showed composure as he ran into the box and finished calmly past the goalkeeper.

The early goal gave Sevilla control of the match, and they dominated possession while Real Oviedo struggled to match their intensity. Djibril Sow doubled the lead in the 22nd minute with a low finish into the bottom corner following a well-worked move.

Sevilla remained in charge for most of the game. A possible penalty for Oviedo was later ruled out after a VAR review, allowing the hosts to keep their advantage.

Chidera Ejuke came on in the second half and made an immediate impact. The winger scored his first goal of the season in his 12th appearance, taking his tally to one goal and one assist for the campaign.

Adams, 24, now has three goals and one assist in 14 La Liga matches this season.

Both players have been named in Eric Chelle’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and are expected to make their tournament debuts. The duo were also on the scoresheet in Nigeria’s 4-1 win over Gabon in the semi-final of the CAF World Cup playoffs.

The Super Eagles are set to open camp in Egypt and will face the hosts in a friendly on 16 December before travelling to Fès, Morocco, for their AFCON group matches.

Nigeria will begin their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on 23 December, before taking on Tunisia on 27 December and Uganda on 30 December, with Adams and Ejuke heading into the tournament in good form.
