AFCON Success Lifts Super Eagles 12 Places in FIFA Ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have moved up to 26th place in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Monday, making a big jump of 12 places.

The Super Eagles rose from 38th position after an impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where they finished third.

Nigeria are now the third-ranked team in Africa, behind AFCON finalists Senegal, who are 12th in the world, and Morocco, who are ranked eighth globally.

Algeria and Egypt, both knocked out by Nigeria during the tournament, are placed fourth and fifth respectively in the African rankings.

At AFCON 2025, the Super Eagles won six of their seven matches, with their only defeat coming against hosts Morocco on penalties in the semi-finals.

Nigeria secured third place by defeating Egypt 4–2 in the playoff match on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Croatia make up the world’s top 10 teams.
