After Osimhen, another Nigerian star joins Galatasaray FC

Nigeria international Oluwatosin Demehin has officially signed with Galatasaray Women’s FC, just days after parting ways with French club Stade de Reims.

The 22-year-old defender made the switch on a free transfer, strengthening Galatasaray’s defence as the club aims for both domestic and European success.

During her two seasons at Reims, Demehin made 26 league appearances, playing a crucial role in helping the team finish 6th in her first season and an impressive 4th in her second season. Her contributions earned Reims a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League playoffs.

Demehin made her debut for Galatasaray in a UEFA Women’s Champions League clash against Czech side Slavia Prague, shortly after joining the club. Although she started on the bench, the Nigerian was introduced in the 37th minute after Turkish midfielder Ecem Cümert sustained an injury.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with Galatasaray initially taking a 2-0 lead through goals from Andrea Stašková. However, two late goals from Slavia Prague saw the match end in a stalemate at the Esenyurt Necmi Kadıoğlu Stadium in Istanbul.

Demehin’s arrival at Galatasaray adds excitement to the squad as they aim to retain their Turkcell Women’s Football Super League title. Her transfer follows the recent move of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray’s men’s team, with both Nigerian stars now integral to their respective teams.

The return leg of the Champions League playoff will take place at Slavia Prague’s Fortuna Arena on September 25, where the winner will advance to the group stage of the competition.
