Agali Urges Nigerians to Be Patient with Super Eagles Amid World Cup Hopes

Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Agali, has called on Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the national team as they chase qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles had a poor start to their campaign, failing to win any of their first four qualifying matches. Things improved slightly with a 2-0 win against Rwanda under new coach Eric Chelle. However, a disappointing draw against Zimbabwe has left Nigeria’s chances of qualifying hanging in the balance.

Despite this, Agali believes the team needs more time to find their rhythm and develop.

“We should be patient with them. We should also support and encourage them. They are our younger ones and deserve our patience and encouragement to grow,” the former Marseille forward said in an interview with Complete Sports.

He also reminded fans that not qualifying should not be seen as the end of the road.

“There’s a chance they could win all their remaining games and still not qualify. It’s not a matter of life and death. Of course, we’ll be happy if they make it, but even if they don’t, let’s continue to support them and prepare for the next opportunity. Life goes on,” the 46-year-old added.

Agali stressed the importance of keeping the faith, while also accepting whatever outcome the team may face.

“We want the team to qualify. We want to see the Nigerian flag in Mexico, the USA, and Canada. I believe it’s still possible. But if it doesn’t happen, we accept it and move forward,” he concluded.

Nigeria are currently six points behind group leaders South Africa and must win all four of their remaining matches to stand a chance of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
