Ahmed Musa is a free agent, following latest update
Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, finds himself without a club after terminating his contract with Turkish Super Lig side, Sivasspor, after just seventeen months.
Musa, 31, was part of Jose Peseiro’s team at the just-concluded AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast, where the Nigerian team returned home with a silver medal. However, he did not feature in any of the seven games in the competition.
The Nigerian team captain joined the one-time Turkish Cup winners after terminating his contract with another Turkish club, Fatih Karagümrük.
He signed a two-year deal with Sivasspor in September 2022 but struggled for playing time in his first season. Musa played twenty-four games, mostly as a substitute, without scoring any goals or recording assists. On average, he played twenty-four minutes per game.
In his second season with Sivasspor, Musa’s situation worsened as he only played four games before the start of the AFCON 2023 tournament, managing to score one goal.
During the tournament in Ivory Coast, five senior players of the Turkish club mutually agreed to terminate their contracts due to the club’s struggle to maintain their wage bill.
According to a report from Medyazar, Musa, a former Kano Pillars player, has also terminated his contract as the club owes him six months’ wages.
As a result, the 2013 AFCON winner is now a free agent but is actively seeking a new club before the opening of the summer transfer window.
