Ahmed Musa scores first Sivasspor goal in Turkish Cup win
Super Eagles of Nigeria captain, Ahmed Musa scored his first goal for Sivasspor in the Turkish cup 2-1 win over Arnavutköy on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
The Sivasspor vs Arnavutkoy clash was a Turkish Cup fourth round fixture and was decided at the New Sivas 4 Eyul Stadium.
Musa was handed a rare start by Sivasspor manager Servet Cetin, his second of the season and was on for 74 minutes.
In the match, Hakan Arslan converted a 19th minute penalty kick to put Sivasspor ahead.
Nigerian International, Ahmed Musa doubled Sivasspor’s advantage in the 25th minute with a beautiful goal.
Musa received the ball outside of the penalty box and, with a sharp burst of pace, drove into the area before smashing an excellent effort into the roof of the net, leaving goalkeeper Cantuğ Temel with no chance of making a save.
That was a great goal to clip what has been a long goal-drought for the former Leicester City FC forward.
Musa’s last goal was in Feburary 2022 as his former club Fatih Karagümrük defeated Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1.
Harun Ozcan halved the deficit for visiting Arnavutkoy B but Sivasspor held on to secure a 2-1 win to reach the next round of the Turkish Cup.
After his goal, Ahmed Musa will look to get more game-time and great performances for Sivasspor to earn a recall to the Nigeria national team squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The 31-year old who is Nigeria’s most-capped player has not been invited to the team in the last three international windows and will have to perform exceptionally well in the next couple of games to force his way into Coach Peseiro’s Super Eagles squad for the AFCON.
Sivasspor’s next game is vs Konyaspor on Monday, December 11, 2023.
