Ahmed Musa to Keep Playing for Kano Pillars While Also Acting as General Manager

Super Eagles and former Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa will continue playing football for Kano Pillars FC, even though he has now also taken on the role of General Manager at the club.
This was confirmed on Tuesday, 8 July, by our reporter Nsikakabasi Akpan, who shared the news on social media after speaking with a source inside the club.
“Confirmed! Ahmed Musa will continue playing for Kano Pillars FC while also working as the club’s General Manager,” Akpan wrote.
The source said that Musa has not retired and even trained with the team earlier that day.
“Ahmed Musa is still an active player. He will play matches and also help to improve the club in his new role as General Manager. He trained with the team today and has the experience to manage both duties,” the source told Akpan.
This news puts an end to several days of rumours about whether the 31-year-old would stop playing after officially starting his new job as General Manager on Monday, 7 July. Until now, the club had not confirmed whether Musa would return to the pitch.
At a meeting with club staff, Musa shared his plans to rebuild Kano Pillars and make the team strong again—both in Nigeria and across Africa.
“This is our club, one of the most successful in Nigeria, but things haven’t gone well recently,” Musa said. “With your support, I will do everything I can to bring Kano Pillars back to the top.”
The news that Musa will continue playing has made many fans happy, especially in Kano, where he is remembered fondly from his first time at the club. It was there that he became a fan favourite and started his journey to international fame.
His return as both a player and club official is part of wider changes supported by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aimed at making the club more professional and improving its work with young players.
With pre-season training for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League already underway, Musa’s involvement on and off the pitch could give the team a big boost as they aim to succeed in Nigeria and beyond.
