A’Ja Wilson ties WNBA single-game scoring record, breaks single-season record in aces’ victory
A’ja Wilson continues to etch her name into the WNBA history books, delivering an extraordinary performance in the Las Vegas Aces’ 86-75 win over the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night.
The star forward not only tied the WNBA’s single-game scoring record with a jaw-dropping 53 points, but she also set a new milestone for the most points scored in a single season.
Wilson’s pull-up jumper with 26.4 seconds left in the first half gave her 941 points for the 2024 season, breaking the previous record of 939 held by Jewell Loyd, set last year. By the end of the game, Wilson had tallied 27 points, pushing her season total to 956 points, just 44 points shy of becoming the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a single season.
Speaking after the game, Wilson expressed relief at finally breaking the record. “It feels great because now people will stop talking about it,” she said. “It felt like it was just lingering, lingering, lingering, so I’m glad we got it done.”
However, Wilson was quick to credit her teammates for the achievement, saying, “I don’t get any of that without every single teammate along the way. I’m so grateful to be able to play with selfless women. They’re the heartbeat; they keep me going.”
Wilson’s dominant performance comes after she returned from a minor ankle injury thus showcasing her resilience.
