Ajagba may get his shot at heavyweight title with Fury but not with Joshua
The Nigerian is one of the three names considered for a fight with Fury
Barely a month after calling out Anthony Joshua for a fight, Efe Ajagba might be getting a shot at the heavy weight with Tyson Fury.
The Nigeria was quoted to have saying he is more skillful than the Watford-born Nigerian.
“I have more skills. … The best weapon of Joshua’s is the left hook and right uppercut. He doesn’t have a good jab. I respect him.
“He is the heavyweight champion. I respect everything about him — his talent and his potential. He is a humble guy. People are saying that I talk Joshua down. But I don’t want to do that.”
His call has been heard by Tyson Fury camp who are looking to set up a fight for the two-time heavyweight world champion.
And according to talksport Efe Ajagba is one of the top three names Tyson Fury might fight this December after waiting a trilogy with Deontay Wilder that has dragged for ‘too long.’
Fury was set to face champion Wilder in a trilogy fight just before Christmas at the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
However, Fury’s co-promoter, Frank Warren, confirmed to talkSPORT the American’s rematch clause had expired and that Fury would be moving on to other opportunities.
And Arum, who represents the 32-year-old with Top Rank in the U.S., revealed Oscar Rivas, Efe Agbaja and Agit Kabayel were in contention to face Fury.
“Yeah, those are the names,” he told iFL TV. “It’s not rocket science.
“Go to the 15 names on the WBC list, 10 of them are not available because they are scheduled to fight within the next month or the next two months, they’re not available.
“[Daniel] Dubois is there, [Joe] Joyce is there, but they’re not available. In the same way [Dereck] Chisora is there and [Oleksandr] Usyk is there – but they’re not available.
“Dillian Whyte is there, but he has a fight coming up. [Joseph] Parker is fighting [Junior] Fa who is also there, so you end up with five guys who are possible.
“You mentioned three of the five; there’s Efe Agbaja, Agit Kabayel, Rivas is there and there are two others.
“We will have pick out, see who is available and pick it out. Rivas and Efe are Top Rank fighters and I’m sure we could arrange for them to be available if that’s who was chosen.
“I’ve got to talk to Frank and to Tyson.”
Rivas went the distance with Whyte in July 2019 and even managed to drop ‘The Body Snatcher’ at the 02 Arena.
Ajagba is a Nigerian boxer with 14 wins and 11 knockouts, who wants to face Anthony Joshua in Africa, while Kabayel defeated Chisora in Monaco almost three years ago.
