Ajax’s Onana slapped with 12 months doping ban
Ajax and Cameroon goalkeeper, Andre Onana has been given a 12 month ban by European football’s governing body, UEFA after he tested positive for a banned substance during routine testing of players.
Onana tested positive for the banned substance on October 30, 2020. He reportedly woke up feeling unwell and took a Lasimac pill belonging to his wife without knowing it contained the banned substance Furosemide. Furosemide is a diuretic agent.
Onana has in a statement refuted all claims of him being a cheat, and has promised to appeal against UEFA’s decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). If his appeal falls through, he would miss the rest of this season with his Dutch club Ajax, and also the African Cup of Nations billed to hold in January 2022 in his native Cameroon.
