Ajibade makes UWCL bow in Atletico defeat at Chelsea

Nigeria’s Super Falcons forward, Rasheedat Ajibade made her UEFA Women’s Champions League debut for her side, Atletico Madrid Femenino in their Round of 16 first leg tie against Chelsea Women in London as they were defeated 2-0 by the English champions.

Ajibade started the game brightly, using her pace to her full advantage, and she won her team a penalty in the 15th minute of the game that resulted in a sending off for Chelsea’s Sophie Ingle. Deyna Castellanos missed the resulting penalty as it was saved by Chelsea keeper, Ann Katrin-Berger. Chelsea went on to score twice in the second half through a Maren Mjelde penalty and a Fran Kirby strike. Atletico missed a second penalty as Merel van Dongen saw her penalty saved by the Chelsea keeper.

Ajibade was taken off after 75 minutes of a thoroughly impressive performance and will be looking to help her team progress to the next stage when Chelsea visit Spain for the second leg.
