Akarandut Orok announces retirement from active football, wins first trophy as Coach
2008/2009 Nigeria Premier League top scorer Akarandut Orok has announced his retirement from active football .
Born on March 18, 1987 , Orok made the announcement in a post on his Facebook account on Sunday October 2, 2022 where he also celebrated his first trophy as a Coach .
The former League top scorer was on the technical bench for Akwa United FC as they defeated Katsina United 2-1 to win the novelty trophy as the Eket Township Stadium was commissioned on Friday September 30.
Orok wrote ” With all the congratulations am recieving,i guess its no longer news about my next chapter in life and career .
” THERE Ä°S TÄ°ME FOR EVERYTHÄ°NG (Bible says). A time to be a player and a time to be a Coach. ”
” I am glad to announce my retirement from active football and also to inform all my friends, family and fans. ”
” That i have subsequently been appointed as one of the Assistant Coaches in Akwa United FC for this League season. ”
” Just few days ago, Friday 30th September 2022 to be precise
Was my first Official Assignment as one of the Assistant Coaches in Akwa United FC.
” The commissioning of the EKET STADIUM By his Excellency the Governor of Akwa Ibom State Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
” The first trophy and first win came through in a classical style . ”
Orok took the Nigeria Premier League by storm in the 2008/2009 season , scoring 17 goals to win the league top scorer award .
His performances earned him a move to Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in 2009 . Orok spent five years in Tunisia before moving to join Al Hidd of Bahrain in 2014 .
At the expiration of his contract with Al Hidd , the forward returned to hometown club Akwa United FC in 2020 .
The experienced striker helped Akwa United FC to a maiden NPFL title , his goals and experience significantly contributing to the success .
Such was his impact on and off the field that when he decided to call time on his career at the end of the 2021/2022 season , the Paul Bassey led management decided to hand him a place on the Coaching Crew a path the forward is grateful to take .
