Akinkunmi Amoo completes Omonoia switch
Super Eagles forward joins Cypriot outfit
Nigerian star Akinkunmi Amoo has completed a permanent transfer to Cypriot giants Omonoia Nicosia, ending his association with FC Copenhagen.
Amoo was a member of the Nigerian U-17 team at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup and earned a move to Sweden with Hammarby IF shortly after. The diminutive winger shone in his time at the club, becoming one of the most sought-after talents in Scandinavia.
Then a teenager, Amoo completed a move from Hammarby to Danish giants FC Copenhagen in what was a club-record sale at the time. He failed to make much of an impact in his first season in Denmark as his side won the league title.
Amoo suffered a season-ending knee injury in pre-season ahead of the 2022-23 season before being embroiled in a legal battle. The 21-year-old has pleaded his innocence, and has now left Denmark completely.
The talented forward has signed a three-year deal with Omonoia Nicosia, and will play alongside Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho at the club. He joins fellow Nigerian Paul Mukairu in leaving Copenhagen this summer after Mukairu joined Reading on loan.
