Akor Adams Scores Winner as Sevilla Beat Athletic Club 2–1

Sevilla secured a vital 2–1 victory over Athletic Club at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, thanks to another goal from Nigerian forward Akor Adams following his return from AFCON.

The win was crucial for Sevilla, who are battling to escape relegation, while Athletic Club were looking to maintain their push for Europe.

Athletic started the brighter of the two teams, but Sevilla gradually grew into the game. The breakthrough came in the 40th minute when Álex Berenguer’s low cross created confusion in Sevilla’s box, allowing Robert Navarro to score from close range.

Sevilla responded quickly, and just before half-time, a fast counter saw Juanlu Sánchez drive down the right before passing to Peque, who levelled the score with a clinical finish in the 43rd minute.

The second half remained tightly contested. The decisive moment came in the 68th minute when Athletic’s Yuri Berchiche was penalised for handball inside the box after a VAR review confirmed the decision.

Akor Adams calmly converted the penalty, sending Unai Simón the wrong way and giving Sevilla a 2–1 lead.

Athletic pressed for an equaliser late in the match, bringing on Nico Williams and committing players forward, but Sevilla defended strongly. Important blocks from Kike Salas and late saves from Odisseas Vlachodimos ensured Sevilla held on for the win.
