Akor Adams Shines for Sevilla but Nigerian Striker Demands More Goals

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams is becoming one of the key attacking players for Sevilla this season after another important goal in the Spanish league.

The Nigerian forward scored last Sunday when Sevilla played a 1–1 draw against Rayo Vallecano at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. Adams opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a close-range header after a good cross from defender César Azpilicueta.

The goal ended Adams’ five-match goal drought in the league and increased his total to seven goals and three assists in 22 La Liga appearances this season.

With an additional assist in the Copa del Rey, the 24-year-old now has 11 goal contributions in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign.

This means Adams is getting close to the record set last season by former Sevilla attacker Dodi Lukebakio, who finished with 13 goal contributions. Adams now needs only two more to match that mark.

Sevilla still have 11 matches left in the league, giving the Nigerian striker a strong chance to surpass that number before the end of the season.

Adams’ progress is even more impressive because his season has not been smooth. He missed three matches while representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations and also sat out two early-season games due to injury.

Despite those setbacks, he has started several matches in the second half of the season and is now a key part of Sevilla’s attack.

The striker joined Sevilla from French club Montpellier in a deal worth about €5 million. Club officials had high expectations for him when he arrived.

One of the club’s football directors said at the time that Adams could become one of the best strikers in La Liga and even predicted he would be Sevilla’s best signing of the season.

Despite his growing influence, Adams has admitted that he is not fully satisfied with his performances.

“For me, the most important thing is to win with Sevilla. I work hard every day to win matches,” Adams said after the draw against Rayo Vallecano.

“Scoring goals is my job, but at this stage of the season it doesn’t matter if Kike Salas scores or if Lucien Agoumé scores. In the end we are a team and we need to get points.”

The Nigerian striker also admitted he believes he should have scored more goals this season.

“But seven goals… I think I should have scored more. I am grateful to God, but I am not satisfied right now,” he said.

Adams also accepted responsibility for missed chances in the match.

“I think every point is important at this stage of the season. We work hard to get them.

“We got a point, but there are many things to work on and improve to reach our goal of three points.

“We are happy to get a point, but not entirely because I also take responsibility. There were many situations that could have put us ahead. We will work on that and be better next time.”

Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, Adams has shown better form in front of goal. Before the tournament he had scored three goals and made one assist in 13 matches. Since returning, he has scored four goals in eight games.

Sevilla will now hope the Nigerian striker can continue his good form and help the club finish the season strongly.

The Spanish side currently sits 14th in the La Liga table, just six points above the relegation zone.
