Akpom joins Ajax from Boro
Nigeria eligible striker Chuba Akpom has put pen to paper on a five-year contract to join Dutch Eredivise giants Ajax Amsterdam from Boro.
Ajax will pay the English Championship side a transfer fee of €12.3m plus €2m add-ons for the player who was instrumental to the clubs promotion push last season.
Akpom scored 28 goals from 38 matches for Middlesbrough but will now continue his career with Ajax.
A product of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, Akpom failed to win a first team shirt with the Gunners and so sought other options.
Multiple loan spells at English Clubs plus a stint with Greek Super League club, PAOK FC in 2018 decorate his resume before he joined Middlesbrough in 2020.
Ajax Amsterdam have unveiled their new signing and will hope the striker who years ago switched nationality from England to Nigeria arrives with the scoring boots from last season to help the clubs push to reclaim the Dutch Eredivise title from PSV.
Last season, England born Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey represented Ajax but after a torrid campaign has moved to the English Premier League with Fulham .
