Akwa Ibom FA sends message to Akwa United midfielder, Paulinus Okon who just graduated with a first class degree

The Akwa Ibom State Football Association has extended heartfelt congratulations to Akwa United midfielder, Paulinus Okon, for his remarkable achievement in graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering from the University of Uyo.

Paulinus, a talented attacking midfielder for the 2021 NPFL champions, earned a Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) of 4.50 and was named the 2021/2022 Best Graduating Student in his department during the university’s 29th/30th convocation ceremonies. His accomplishment has made him the first student in his department to graduate with a First Class degree, further cementing his place as an inspiration to young athletes.

In reaction to Paulinus’ achievement, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr. Samuel Umoh, praised the midfielder for being a role model to other young footballers in the state. Mr. Umoh stated, “Paulinus’ success is a testament to the values we strongly advocate at the Football Association — that young players should not only chase their football dreams but also strive for academic excellence. His achievement is a good example of how important it is for our youngsters to balance education and sport, and he stands as an example for others to follow.”

Paulinus’ feat aligns with the words of Lady Barr. Ime Isang, who recently emphasised the importance of combining academics with football during the opening match of the Academies Championship organised by the Akwa Ibom State Football Association. The tournament was held in honour of her late husband, Obong Isong Isang, a successful pharmacist, sports administrator, and footballer. Lady Isang had called on young footballers to follow their dreams in football while prioritising their education, just as her late husband did.

Speaking further, the Akwa Ibom State FA boss also urged Paulinus to continue his journey to the top of his football career. He added, “Paulinus has shown that with determination, discipline, and focus, it is possible to succeed in both academics and football. I urge him to continue striving for excellence, to reach the peak of his football career, and to remain a first-class example in all his endeavours.”

Paulinus Okon, a product of Eagle Eye Football Academy, Uyo, is yet to feature in a competitive match for Akwa United but has been part of the team’s training sessions since signing a professional contract.
