Akwa Ibom FA Welcomes Teams as NLO Division One Kicks Off in Uyo
The 2025 season of the Nationwide League One (NLO) Division One officially began in full stretch across different centres in Nigeria on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, with the Uyo Township Stadium hosting exciting matches as one of the approved venues for the country’s third-tier football league.
The Akwa Ibom State Football Association, led by its Chairman, Mr Samuel Umoh, hosted the opening day of fixtures at the Uyo Centre, where 12 teams are competing for a single promotion playoff spot.
Speaking at the stadium, Mr Umoh expressed his joy at the opportunity to host the league and stressed the state FA’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and successful season.
“We are pleased to welcome all twelve teams to Uyo for the 2025 NLO Division One season. The Akwa Ibom State Football Association is proud to serve as host, and we have made all necessary arrangements to ensure a hitch-free campaign for everyone involved,” Mr Umoh said.
He also urged all participating teams to uphold the values of fair play and integrity throughout the competition, which runs from 23 April to 24 May 2025.
“This competition is not only about winning but also about character and discipline. We encourage every team to play fairly and show good sportsmanship. Let’s make this season memorable for the right reasons,” he added.
Three matches were played on the opening day at the Uyo Township Stadium. Blessed Stars FC and FC ONE Rocket played an entertaining 1-1 draw in the first match. Heaven’s Race FC made a strong statement with a convincing 4-0 win over Krane FC in the second game. The day ended with KMK Foundation claiming a 1-0 victory over Palm Syrup FC.
NLO Division One action will continue at the Uyo Township Stadium as the battle for the single promotion playoff ticket heats up among the twelve teams.
