Akwa Ibom Sports Commissioner Rewards Ibom Angels After Brave Performance Against Naija Ratels

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has fulfilled his promise by giving a cash reward to Ibom Angels players and officials following their strong display against Naija Ratels on Wednesday, 26 November, in Abuja.

Ibom Angels held their opponents to a 0–0 draw in their opening match of the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership season at the Bwari Township Stadium. Both teams created chances but neither could score after ninety minutes of play.

Speaking after the match, Elder Bassey praised the players for their effort and described them as true ambassadors of Akwa Ibom State. He said their performance reflected courage and discipline, adding that they have represented the state with pride.

He also linked the team’s determination to the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno, noting that the girls showed character and maturity despite the tension surrounding the game.

“As a government, we are proud of their heroic performance which has brought joy to the people of Akwa Ibom, and we will continue to support them throughout the season,” he said.

The Commissioner then presented the promised cash gift to the team and expressed confidence that Ibom Angels will achieve great success this season.

Ibom Angels will now turn their attention to their next match, as they welcome Pacesetters Queens to Uyo Township Stadium next Wednesday for matchday two.
