Akwa United FC part ways with Ayodeji Ayeni, set to name new coach
2021 Nigeria Professional Football League Champions Akwa United FC have parted ways with Coach Ayodeji Ayeni SportsRation reports.
The Uyo-based club have decided not to renew the contract of the former Sunshine Stars FC Coach at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
Recall that Ayeni took charge at Akwa United following the exit of Coach Kennedy Boboye mid-way through the 2021/2022 season.
In the just concluded 2022/2023 season, Akwa United narrowly missed out on a Nigeria Professional Football League Super Six playoffs spot , finishing in fourth in group A behind eventual league champions Enyimba International for the last qualification spot.
Also, the two-time Nigeria Federation Cup champions suffered early eviction from the FA Cup in the hand of National League opposition to end the season with only the state federation cup title to show.
Ahead of the 2023/2024 season, the Promise Keepers are reportedly close to naming a new manager to lead their charge for success in what has been termed a Golden era in the south-south state by the new Governor.
Frontrunner for the Job is Fatai Osho who recently left his Rivers United role.
