Akwa United FC send message to sponsor, supporters, after ‘TURBULENT’ 2023/2024 season
Akwa United Football Club have sent a message to its sponsors and supporters after what they described as a ‘turbulent’ 2023/2024 season.
By the club’s standards over the last eight years, it was unusual to see the Promise Keepers battling for safety throughout the 2023/2024 season. A 3-1 win over Rivers United FC on the final day of the season was enough to secure the club’s top-flight status.
After surviving the keen relegation battle, Akwa United expressed deep appreciation to God Almighty, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, the Honorable Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, and all the fans and supporters of the club for their unwavering support during the 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Speaking to the club’s staff on Monday morning in Uyo, Club Chairman Elder Paul Bassey first thanked God for granting the team journey mercies and protection throughout the season. He also highlighted the crucial victories that ensured the club retained their place in the Premier League, attributing these successes to the relentless prayers of the club’s spiritual fathers.
Elder Bassey extended special gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for his massive support and trust during what he described as the most turbulent season the club has faced in the last eight years. “His Excellency Governor Umo Eno should be appreciated for all the encouragement, moral, and financial support we received during the season,” Bassey said. He also praised the Governor’s love for the sport and his administration’s support for grassroots development and national team matches.
Bassey also commended the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, referring to him as his “pillar of strength.” He lauded Uko’s unwavering support and encouragement, describing his leadership as exemplary.
The Club Chairman expressed gratitude to football administrators, fans, and the media community across the country for their encouragement throughout the challenging season. He also thanked the club’s technical crew, led by Coach Babaganaru, who bravely took on the challenge and succeeded despite the club’s difficulties. The players, management, and staff, whom he described as “committed, prayerful, and hard-working,” were also acknowledged.
In conclusion, Elder Bassey promised to begin efforts to return the Promise Keepers to continental competitions, where they rightfully belong.
