Akwa United Mgt Apologize to supporters for ‘ terrible emotional torture ‘, reads riot act to Coaches, Players
Following a poor start to the season that has seen Akwa United garnering only two points from a possible twelve, the Management of the club has apologized to it’s supporters for what it tagged ‘ terrible emotional torture ‘ and read the riot act to its coaching crew and the players.
Rising from a meeting on Monday to review the performance of the club in the ongoing 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League season, Akwa United FC issued a public statement, presented in full below.
The Management of the club admonished the technical crew and the players to “quickly remedy the situation at hand”.
Chairman of the club Elder Paul Bassey regretted the “terrible emotional torture you have made our teeming fans to go through and we want to sincerely apologise to them and ask that you quickly remedy the situation even by the next match in Benin”.
The Chairman appreciated the loyal fans of the club who believe “things will soon turn around” yet insisted that the sooner the better.
“We are a club rich in tradition and endowed with winning mentality. We don’t participate in the league for participation sake. We compete to win laurels and qualify for the continent and our record in the past five seasons can attest to that.
“We the management of Akwa United Football Club are worried about the present position of our club after playing four matches without a win. Our recent results are simply not acceptable. Our fans and supporters deserve the best from us for all their support and encouragement and we have to improve our performance to ensure we have positive results in our subsequent matches.
“As the management of this club, we have made our players welfare package a top priority, we are not owing any staff of this club because salaries and bonuses are paid as at when due. As a club, we don’t lack anything because the government of Pastor Umo Eno has provided us with all the necessary support we need.
“Our players don’t have any reason not to perform well, they must stand up and be counted, they have to be more committed, dedicated, disciplined, and focused while representing this club. Our players and coaches must always be at their best so they can give us the results we need to achieve our target at the end of the season, which is to win the league again, just as we did in 2021”.
With two points from four matches, Akwa United are at the wrong end of the table and will be aiming to get their first win of the season this weekend when they engage Bendel Insurance in Benin.
