Akwa United miss opportunity to go top, held to draw by Jigawa Golden Stars
Promise Keepers now unbeaten in 9 NPFL games
Akwa United faced Jigawa Golden Stars at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna in their rescheduled NPFL Matchday 15 encounter as the league continues its midseason break. The game ended 1-1 as both sides settled for a point apiece.
The match at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium was a low-key affair as both sides failed to properly create openings to score. The game finally came to life in the 89th minute as Nasiru Jibril rifled home an opener for the away side with Ndifreke Effiong providing the assist for the goal. Jigawa Golden Stars stole a point at the death as topscorer Samuel Stone scored from the penalty spot for his 6th goal this season in the NPFL.
The result takes Akwa United to 34 points, two behind Kwara United in first place. The Akwa Ibom-based side are now unbeaten in their last 9 matches in the league and have the longest current unbeaten streak.
