Akwa United Strengthen Squad With Eight New Signings Ahead of NNL Season

Akwa United have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, unveiling another set of eight new players as the club intensifies its bid to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The new recruits are Kammonke Willie from Ikorodu City, Abubakar Sadiq from Hephzibah FC, Ikechukwu Onuoha from Adoration FC, Saviour Edet from KMK FC, Allen Ihunwo from Maverick FC, Ameer Muhammad from Reign FA, Augustine Chibuzor from ECAS FA and Damadou Franck from Cavalier FC of the Benin Republic.
Five of the eight players are attacking options, while two are midfielders and one is a defender, giving Head Coach Paul Offor more options as he continues to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.
One of the exciting additions is Saviour Edet, regarded as one of the brightest young football talents from Akwa Ibom State. The youngster joins from KMK Academy, Uyo, with huge potential and blazing aspirations as he takes a major step in his football career.
The latest recruitment follows Akwa United’s earlier acquisition of 10 players, including goalkeeper Robert Cole, defenders Keme Okoriye, Famoyegun Michael and Ikemdinachi Prince, as well as midfielders Paschal Uba, Asiriuwa Godwin, Ifeanyichukwu Nwune and James Peter. Forwards Peter Asuquo and Apas Abel completed the first batch.
The new signings have joined players retained from last season in training as the technical crew works to build a competitive squad ahead of the new campaign.
Akwa United will compete in Conference B of the 2026/2027 NNL season, which commenced on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Having narrowly missed out on promotion last season, the Uyo-based club will be determined to make a stronger push for a return to the NPFL.
The Promise Keepers will begin their campaign on Sunday, November 8, 2026, when they host Ekiti United FC at the Uyo Township Stadium at 4pm.
