Al Ahli SC Sign Former Super Eagles Captain Troost-Ekong on Long-Term Deal

Qatar Stars League side Al Ahli SC have officially announced the signing of former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong from Saudi Pro League club Al Kholood.
The club confirmed the deal on Tuesday through their Instagram page, welcoming the experienced defender with the message: “He’s here, he’s ready, welcome to the club William. Let’s make history together.”
The 32-year-old Nigerian centre-back has signed a contract that will keep him at Al Ahli until June 2028, ending his one-and-a-half-year stay in Saudi Arabia. He joins the Qatari club after an impressive spell at Al Kholood, where he made 49 appearances and captained the team.
During his time at Al Kholood, Troost-Ekong played a vital role in the club’s fight to stay in the Saudi Pro League. His leadership, calm presence and defensive strength made him one of the most important players in the squad.
Al Ahli have also confirmed that the Nigerian defender will wear the number 5 shirt as he begins a new chapter in Qatar. The club currently sit ninth in the Qatar Stars League table with 15 points, four points above the relegation zone. They will hope Troost-Ekong’s arrival helps improve their position in the second half of the season.
Troost-Ekong brings vast experience to Al Ahli, having played in several countries across Europe and the Middle East, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Turkey, Italy, England, Greece and Saudi Arabia. His signing is seen as a major boost as the club aim to build momentum and finish the season strongly.
