Al-Merreikh 4 Rivers 0 (Aggr 4-3): Al-Madina hattrick sends United to CAF Confederations Cup
Three first half goals by Bakri Al Madina and one after the break gave Al-Merreikh a comfortable 4-0 victory over Rivers United to send the Nigerian club out of the CAF Champions League to Confederations Cup.
Bakri Al Madina scored a hat-trick in the 9th, 24th and 45th minutes before the Sudanese added the fourth and the killer punch in the 2nd half.
Rivers United who are one of Nigeria’s representatives at this year’s CAF Champions League went into the 2nd leg in Sudan full of confidence after their 3-0 victory in Port-Harcourt but failed to get the job done in the 2nd leg at the Al-Merrikh Stadium in Omdurman on Saturday.
Rivers United players and officials were subject to lot of hostile treatment from their hosts as the home fans attacked the Nigerians even before the game was played and were stopped from recording the match.
Although Rivers United are out of the CAF Champions League they will now compete in the CAF Confederations Cup.
