Alex Iwobi Joins African Legends in Premier League History
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has become the fifth African player to make at least 50 appearances for three different Premier League clubs. He reached this milestone during Fulham’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Iwobi has had a solid career in the Premier League. He started at Arsenal in the 2015/2016 season, making 100 appearances. In 2019, he moved to Everton, where he played 123 games. He joined Fulham last year and has since made 50 appearances for the club.
In the match against Ipswich, Iwobi started but struggled in the first half as Fulham trailed 1-0. He was substituted in the 63rd minute, and the game became more exciting after that. Fulham equalized with a penalty in the 69th minute, but Ipswich regained the lead soon after. However, Fulham scored again in stoppage time to make it 2-2.
Iwobi joins four other African football legends who have made 50 or more appearances for three Premier League clubs. These players are Nwankwo Kanu (Arsenal, Portsmouth, West Brom), El Hadji Diouf (Bolton, Blackburn, Liverpool), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Everton, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth), and Mohamed Diamé (Wigan, West Ham, Newcastle).
