Alex Iwobi makes his pick for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award
Alex Iwobi has made his pick for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year awards, set to take place next month. In a recent Snapchat video captured on the Super Eagles team plane en route to Abidjan for their AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic, Iwobi declared his teammate Ademola Lookman as “Africa’s best.”
Lookman has had a standout season with Atalanta B.C., where he helped the team clinch the Europa League and finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings.
His exceptional performances have made him a leading contender for the prestigious CAF award, which will be held on December 16 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Iwobi’s enthusiastic endorsement, showcased alongside fellow teammates Calvin Bassey and Lookman, has heightened expectations for Lookman’s potential victory.
At 27, Lookman has emerged as one of Africa’s top football talents, netting eight goals and providing five assists in just 14 appearances for Atalanta this season.
Additionally, he has made valuable contributions in the UEFA Champions League, with one goal and one assist in three matches. If Lookman secures the CAF Player of the Year title, he would follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Victor Osimhen, adding to Nigeria’s rich football heritage.
