Alex Iwobi Scores and Shines as Fulham Beat Liverpool at Craven Cottage

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi was the hero at Craven Cottage as his brilliant goal helped Fulham secure a stunning 3-2 victory over Liverpool in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder continued his fine form, scoring his eighth league goal of the season and providing an assist as Marco Silva’s side claimed a famous win over the title-chasing Reds.

Liverpool took the lead in the 14th minute through Argentina’s World Cup winner, Alexis Mac Allister, who fired in a superb long-range strike. But Fulham equalised just nine minutes later through Ryan Sessegnon, who pounced on a loose ball in the box.

In the 32nd minute, the Nigerian midfielder capitalised on a failed clearance. His first attempt was blocked, but he calmly took a second bite and rifled the ball into the top corner to put Fulham 2-1 ahead. It was a confident finish that left Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher with no chance.

Just five minutes later, Iwobi turned provider. After clearing a Liverpool corner, he set the ball rolling for Rodrigo Muniz, who shrugged off Virgil van Dijk and slotted home Fulham’s third of the match. The assist was Iwobi’s fifth in the league this season, underlining his growing influence at Fulham.

Luis Diaz scored for Liverpool in the 72nd minute to make it 3-2, but Fulham held on to record their first Premier League win over the Reds since March 2021 and their first home win against them since December 2011.

Iwobi has now played in all of Fulham’s Premier League matches this season, starting all but one, and is enjoying his best goal-scoring campaign yet. His energy, creativity, and consistency have been key for Fulham, who are now 8th on the league table and in the hunt for a European spot.

With just a few matches left this season, Iwobi’s form could be vital in helping Fulham qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
