Alex Iwobi scores winner as Fulham beat Leicester City

Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi was the hero of the day as his decisive goal helped Fulham secure a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in their Premier League clash on August 24, 2024.

Iwobi’s 70th-minute strike proved to be the match-winner, giving Fulham their first win of the season at Craven Cottage.

After suffering a disappointing late defeat to Manchester United in their season opener, Marco Silva’s team was determined to bounce back at home. Fulham started the match strongly, with Emile Smith Rowe putting the hosts ahead with an 18th-minute goal, finishing a swift counterattack with a well-placed shot past Leicester’s goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Leicester City responded before halftime, with Wout Faes equalizing in the 38th minute. The Belgian defender was left unmarked in the box and powered a header into the net from Facundo Buonanotte’s corner, leveling the score at 1-1.

The second half saw Fulham push forward in search of a winner, creating numerous chances. Their persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Iwobi, released by full-back Antonee Robinson, made a driving run before finishing confidently with his weaker foot to restore Fulham’s lead.

Despite Leicester’s late attempts to salvage a point, Fulham held on to secure a vital 2-1 victory, with Iwobi’s goal marking his return to goalscoring form and giving Fulham a much-needed boost in their Premier League campaign.
