All African games: Ghana vs Ethiopia women’s football match marred by power outages at Cape Coast Stadium
During Ghana women’s team victory over Ethiopia in the African Games football match at Cape Coast Stadium, two instances of power outages occurred, sparking widespread discussion.
Despite the interruptions, the Black Princesses secured a hard-fought 1-0 win, to make a positive start to their African games campaign.
The first power outage happened in the 36th minute, leading to a delay of nearly 20 minutes before power was restored.
However, another outage occurred just before halftime, prematurely ending the first half.
Stability returned in the second half, allowing Ghana to take the lead through Jacqueline Owusu’s goal in the 59th minute. Despite facing adversity, Ghana managed to maintain their lead, to secure an important victory.
The incidents prompted authorities to investigate the cause of the power outages which has cast a negative light on the country’s infrastructure, especially considering the game was televised live to viewers across the world.
As the games continue, Ghana is scheduled to face Tanzania next before concluding their group stage matches against Uganda.
