All set for the kickoff of maiden Academies Championship in Akwa Ibom
The inaugural Obong Isong Isang Memorial Academies Championship is set to begin today, Saturday, November 2, 2024, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
This championship will bring together 19 football academies from across Akwa Ibom, competing in a knockout format from November 2 to November 9 for the grand prize.
The opening ceremony will feature Immortality FC against NNS Jubilee Academy in a 4 pm match at the Uyo Township Stadium. Organized by the Akwa Ibom State Football Association under the leadership of Mr. Samuel Umoh, the event has received significant endorsements, including from Nigeria Football Federation President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau.
This opening match marks the first-ever meeting between Immortality FC and NNS Jubilee Academy, with both teams expressing confidence in their ability to advance. NNS Jubilee Academy head coach, Harry Uruanta, shared his optimism, saying, “I have full confidence in my players’ abilities, and we’ll come out tomorrow and give our best. Whatever the result, we’ll accept it. All I ask for is fair officiating.”
Prophet Ubong James, CEO of Immortality FC, also shared his team’s readiness and ambition: “We have had good preparation for this tournament. This is the first time we will be facing NNS Jubilee Academy. We will not underrate them but give this game our best. The overall target is to win the championship and prepare for the Federation Cup.”
