Amaju Pinnick Rules Out Return as NFF President

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick has ruled out a return to the leadership of the body, putting an end to long-running speculation about a possible third term.

Speaking on News Central TV in Morocco, Pinnick said that although he is still young and capable at 55, he has no interest in seeking another term as NFF president.

“I am young. I’m 55 and I can still be NFF president. But do I want to be? Never,” he said.

Pinnick headed the NFF from 2014 to 2022, completing two full terms. During that period, he also served as First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and was a member of FIFA’s Organising Committee for competitions.

Looking back on his eight years in charge, Pinnick said he was satisfied with what he achieved and stressed the need for the federation to continue improving by addressing its weaknesses.

“I have done eight years and I am fine with it. Now it is about moving forward, helping the federation by identifying its shortcomings and finding ways to improve,” he added.

Pinnick’s decision comes four years after legal and political disputes over the NFF electoral process. He was eventually succeeded by Zamfara State FA chairman Ibrahim Gusau, who was elected as the 40th president of the Nigeria Football Federation at the body’s 78th elective congress in 2022.
