Amoo, two other Super Eagles ruled out for the rest of the season

Copenhagen youngster suffers serious injury in training

Promising Nigerian youngster Akinkunmi Amoo has been ruled out of action for the rest of the 2022-23 season. The FC Copenhagen winger will hope to return to action in time for the beginning of the 2023-24 season.

Amoo, who transferred to the Danish giants from Hammarby IF in January 2022, suffered a serious knee injury in his side’s training match against Silkeborg IF. The former Shooting Stars youngster required surgery following the injury and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. He is expected to be out of action for nine to ten months. The diminutive winger featured twice in the league for his club before his injury.

Before Akinkunmi Amoo was ruled out, two other Super Eagles players suffered the same fate, including his U17 captain and teammate Samson Tijani. The 20-year-old Tijani suffered a horrific fracture to his tibia and fibula in a preseason match between his RB Salzburg team and Dutch side Feyenoord. The young defensive midfielder is not expected to feature for the rest of the 2022-23 season for the Austrian champions.

Super Eagles left-back Jamilu Collins has also been ruled out of action for the rest of the 2022-23 season. The 28-year-old completed a summer transfer to Cardiff City and made an impressive start to life in Wales before he ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament. He started in each of his side’s first four matches in the EFL Championship before picking up his injury in their Matchday four meeting with West Bromwich Albion.
