Amuneke not aware he is Eguavoen assistant coach

Emmanuel Amuneke said no one has informed him of any appointment with the Nigeria senior national team as the assistant coach.

Several media reported the news that the former Barcelona forward has been drafted to support Austin Eguavoen as Nigeria fights for a world cup ticket.

Austin Eguavoen currently has four assistant coaches namely Salisu Yusuf, Paul Aigbogun, Dr. Terry Eguaoje, and Joseph Yobo.

And some media outlets are claiming that Paul Aigbogun and Joseph Yobo will be sacked as assistants for Emmanuel Amuneke to join Austin Eguavoen.

But the history-making former Tanzania coach said nothing has been discussed with him and he is not aware of any role with the Super Eagles.

“I’m not aware of any appointment with the Super Eagles or any job with the Nigerian government,” Amuneke told Sporting Sun.

“I just returned to my base in Spain from the CAF Technical Study Group duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and I read the story of my appointment from the Internet.

“I was in the team’s hotel in Cameroon countless times and there was no time the appointment was discussed with me,” he added.

When asked further if he would be interested in taking up a role if offered he said there must be something to reject or accept before answering the question.

“Right now, nobody has contacted me, not even the NFF or the Sports Ministry. Until an offer is made, I will rather not talk on that,” he said.

Nigeria must sort the coaching department out as soon as they can as Ghana are reportedly set to announce a star-studded coaching crew made up of Chris Houghton, Otto Addo.
