Amusan Oregon Feat Listed Among World Athletics Moments of 2022
Nigerian superstar enjoys great success in 2022 season
Nigerian hurdler Oluwatobiloba Amusan (OON) had a year 2022 to remember with a series of mind-blowing performances over the entire year that gave her recognition far beyond her expectations. The 25-year-old enjoyed unprecedented success in the 2022 season and saw her efforts earn her global plaudits.
Having narrowly missed out on a podium place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Amusan bounced back to win Nigeria’s first Diamond League trophy weeks later in 2021. She carried that form over into the 2022 season and stunned the world at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Oregon, where she smashed the world record in the semifinals. To prove that it was not a fluke, she broke the record once more in the final, running a wind-assisted 12.06 seconds. Her semifinal world record was ratified this month by the World Athletics Federation, confirming her as the first Nigerian world record holder.
Amusan’s daring feat in Oregon endeared her to many globally and has been included among the 22 most significant moments in the 2022 season. Having been just on the cusp of greatness for nearly two years, Amusan fully stepped into the light and exploded onto the scene brilliantly and will dominate headlines for months to come.
