Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors Crowned NBSL Champions After Dramatic Penalty Win Over Kebbi Fishers

Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors have emerged as the new champions of the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over defending champions, Kebbi Fishers, in Sunday’s final at the Jabi Lake Resort, Abuja.
The closely contested match ended 3-3 in regulation time before Anambra triumphed 5-3 in the shootout to claim their first-ever league title.
The final attracted several dignitaries, including the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi (MON), and NFF Executive Committee Member and Chairman of the Beach Soccer and Futsal Committee, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Nse Udofot Essien. Others in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Salihu Abubakar, NFF Technical Director Coach Augustine Eguavoen, NFF Director of Media and Communications Dr Ademola Olajire, Special Assistant to the NFF President Abubakar Danladi Umar, and former FIFA referee Alex Mana.
The Cup holders, Kebbi Fishers, showed great resilience by coming from 1-3 down to level the game, thanks to goals from Hassan Abdullahi, Taiwo Adams, and Hassan Muhammed. For the new champions, Ekunjimi Eganosi, Peter Prosper, and Stanley Ekwo were on target.
This historic win brings Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors level with Kada BSC, who won the 2022 edition, while Kebbi Fishers remain the most successful team in the league with three titles.
In his remarks, NFF President Gusau commended all the participating teams for their commitment and sportsmanship.
“This year’s league has been a remarkable display of exceptional talent and competitive spirit, underscoring the growth of beach soccer in Nigeria,” Gusau said.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors on their historic triumph and encourage all other teams to continue striving for excellence.”
Several individual awards were also presented at the end of the competition:
- Highest Goal Scorer: Frank Dozie (Kada BSC) – 14 goals
- Best Goalkeeper: Segun Basorun (Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors)
- Rising Star: Uwana Aniete (Ibom BSC)
- Most Valuable Player: Stanley Ekwo (Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors)
The 2025 Nigeria Beach Soccer League has once again showcased the passion, growth, and emerging talent within the sport across the country.
