Andre Ayew scores late-brace for Le Havre after Ghana AFCON disappointment
Ghanaian forward Andre Ayew, made a triumphant return to his club, Le Havre, by scoring a late-brace in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Ayew had faced criticism back home following Ghana’s early elimination from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
Upon return to his club, Ayew started on the bench for the game on Sunday, January 28, 2024 but came on as a substitute in the 70th minute to replace Daler Kuzyaev.
The Black Stars skipper made an immediate impact, heading home to level the score with five minutes remaining on the clock.
However, Lorient regained the lead two minutes into injury time in the Frech Ligue 1 match.
In a dramatic turn of events, Ayew responded with a spectacular acrobatic kick goal just two minutes later, securing a point for Le Havre with a 3-3 scoreline.
The goal were Ayew’s first and second goals for the French club.
The 34-year-old veteran, who faced criticism for Ghana’s disappointing AFCON campaign, will hope to put that phase behind him as he contributes towards his club’s engagements in France.
