Andre Onana reveals Manchester United players want Van Nisterlrooy to stay
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future as Manchester United’s manager is uncertain with Rúben Amorim set to take over. However, goalkeeper André Onana has said that the players want the Dutchman to stay.
Van Nistelrooy took over as interim manager after Erik ten Hag was sacked. He is unbeaten in his three games in charge, including a 2-0 win over PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday – United’s first European win in over a year.
A former United striker, Van Nistelrooy has said he would like to stay involved with the club after his interim role ends with Sunday’s Premier League game against Leicester City.
When asked if the players wanted the same, Onana told TNT Sports: “100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach. He has so much experience and gives us a lot of advice. He’s doing a fantastic job, and the players are happy. But in the end, it’s not up to us. The club will make the decision, and we have to accept it.”
Van Nistelrooy added that he is focused only on preparing for his final game in charge. “I’m only thinking about one thing,” he said. “I want to prepare for my last game as well as I can and get the best performance from the players. After that, I’m not looking too far ahead.
