Anthony Joshua vows to continue Boxing career after shock defeat to Daniel Dubois
British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has vowed not to retire following his stunning fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
In a shocking upset, Dubois, the IBF heavyweight champion, floored the former two-time world heavyweight champion, Joshua, with a powerful right hand in the opening round. Joshua struggled to recover and was knocked out in the fifth round, ending the bout in dramatic fashion.
Despite the loss, Joshua remained defiant in his post-fight interview, expressing a desire to continue his boxing career. Speaking to DAZN, Joshua said,”Credit to him and his team, we rolled the dice of success, but we came up short.”
He acknowledged his mistakes but reaffirmed his commitment to the sport: “I’m always saying to myself I’m a fighter for life. We keep rolling the dice. I had a sharp opponent, a fast opponent, and a lot of mistakes from my end, but that’s the game.”
Joshua, known for his calm demeanor, maintained his professionalism in the aftermath of the defeat, adding,
“You know I’m ready to kick off in the ring, but I’m going to keep my cool, keep very professional, and give respect to my opponent.”
The loss to Dubois has sparked discussions about Joshua’s future in boxing, but the 34-year-old remains focused on making a comeback.
Dubois, meanwhile, celebrated the biggest victory of his career. Speaking after the fight, he said,
“I’ve only got a few things to say, are you not entertained?! It’s been a journey, and I’m grateful to be in this position. I’m a gladiator, I’m a warrior until the bitter end.”
The victory allows Dubois to retain the IBF heavyweight world title, while Joshua looks ahead to the possibility of rebuilding his career and chasing another shot at heavyweight glory.
