Are Super Eagles players happy with Jose Peseiro ? – William Troost-Ekong provides answer

Nigeria national team vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong has voiced his support for head coach Jose Peseiro by saying the players are happy with the Portuguese coach.

William Troost-Ekong has revealed that he, along with his teammates, would love for Jose Peseiro to continue as head coach of the Super Eagles.

Peseiro’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expired, and the Portuguese tactician is currently linked to the vacant Algeria national team job

The 63-year-old guided the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, raising his stock in the eyes of the footballing world.

Troost-Ekong wants Peseiro to remain in charge of Super Eagles.

“Yes. I think the players are happy with him. Reaching the final is something significant and also something we can build on,” Troost-Ekong said in an exclusive interview with CNN World Sports Amanda Davies.

“However, on what he had in mind, I did try to ask him before we left and he said he’s going to call me back.

“I think I’m just as much in the dark as you guys are but I think all the players would be happy to see him back.”

The Nigeria Football Federation Sportsration gathered, is open to offering Peseiro a new contract but will seek approval from the Federal Government to enter negotiations with the the veteran gaffer.

That should be sorted as soon as possible as Nigeria shifts their focus to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, with fixtures against South Africa and Benin on the horizon.
