Aribo and Onuachu Fire Southampton to Victory Over Ipswich
Super Eagles stars Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu scored the goals in Southampton’s 2-1 win against Ipswich at Portman Road, helping their side secure a much-needed Premier League victory.
Southampton, battling to stay in the top flight, faced Ipswich in their 24th league game of the season. Coach Ivan Juric has shown great confidence in Aribo and Onuachu since his arrival, and he started both players once again.
Ipswich dominated the early stages, with Julio Enciso testing the Southampton defence three times in the opening 18 minutes. However, Southampton took the lead against the run of play in the 21st minute when Aribo reacted quickly to a loose ball in the box and fired a volley into the net.
The home side responded 10 minutes later, with Liam Delap scoring the equaliser to make it 1-1. Ipswich continued to create chances but failed to take the lead before half-time.
The second half was a tight contest, with both teams struggling to create clear opportunities. Just when it seemed the match would end in a draw, Onuachu took advantage of a rebound from goalkeeper Arijanet Muric and tapped in the winner in the 87th minute.
The goal secured Southampton’s first Premier League win since November 2024. Onuachu now has two goals this season, while Aribo has scored three. Despite the victory, Southampton remain eight points from safety and will need more wins to escape relegation.
