Luciano Spalletti has asked Victor Osimhen, and his Napoli teammates to stay focused and not get carried away with the euphory of their impressive form as it will end their growth.
Napoli who are top of the Serie A table with 15 points gap over second-placed Inter Milan, face Empoli today at the Stadio Castellani.
Empoli holds a special place in the heart of the Italian Luciano Spalletti as he started his managerial career at the club, but he is fully focused on the Napoli mission.
And wants his players to stay grounded and not carried away with their spectacular form.
“It’s a tough game because they are precise tactically, so we must try to break their unity,” he said during the pre-match.
“They have strong players such as Guglielmo Vicario. Everyone is talking about him now. We’ll see Fabiano Parisi and Tommaso Baldanzi join top clubs next season.
“I understand that it’s difficult for you [journalists] to understand this game will be tricky, but we should not do the same. We want to win for our city. We can’t make mistakes. Euphory should not lead to arrogance which would end our growth,” continued Spalletti.
“I started from there and I am grateful to Empoli. Seven years as a player and a coach, plus 20 as a supporter and I’ve had benefits because of it in my career.”
The game presents Victor Osimhen with a chance to add to his goal tally and Napoli with a chance to open an 18-point gap atop the Serie A table.
So far this season, Victor Osimhen has 20 goals in 24 games in all competitions (18 of the goals are from 19 Serie A games).
