Arsenal player scoring for fun in Ligue 1 open to Nigeria call-up
says Nigeria is close to his heart
Arsenal player who is currently on loan at Reims in the French Ligue 1 where he is scoring for fun has said he is open to switching allegiance from England to Nigeria.
Folarin Balogun with seven league goals in twelve league games is one of the top scorers in the French Ligue and he told BBC Africa’s Okeleji that he will play for Nigeria if he gets the opportunity.
The 21-year-old striker who recently signed a contract at Arsenal that runs until the 2024-25 campaign will definitely consider playing for Nigeria which is close to his heart.
“I haven’t heard anything from Nigeria, but I’m open to anything because Nigeria is very close to my heart,” he told BBC Sport Africa.
“My family’s from there. I always have a love for Nigeria.”
Folarin Balogun who has scored 11 goals in 26 England caps from U17 to U21 level, says he is open to switching allegiance from England to Nigeria.
“That’s a conversation that I need to have with people around me, my agent and obviously my family,” added Balogun.
“But if I was asked about the opportunity to play for Nigeria, then I can have that conversation. But first I need to be asked.”
