Arsenal star Saka reveals the secrets of his Yoruba name ‘Bukayo’

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has revealed the inspiration, meaning and source of his name ‘Bukayo’.

Born in London to Nigerian parents Bukayo Saka plays for the England national team a decision he said was the  best for him.

“Choosing Nigeria over England would be a tough decision.

“My whole family has been in England like forever, it would be very strange for me to adapt to an environment that I had never been in since growing up.

“When I grew up all my documents stated that I am English, hopefully Nigerian people will understand.”

In an interview with  British GQ Saka explained the source and meaning of his Nigerian name ‘Bukayo’.

“My grandma gave [me my name]. It means ‘God has added joy to my life.’

“She wanted me to add joy to the family. Every time she called me, that’s probably what I meant to her.”

Arsenal fans will be hoping he leads the team to a top four finish this season after missi g out for a while.
