Arsenal vs Crystal Palace Result Could Hand Liverpool the Premier League Title

Liverpool took another big step towards winning the Premier League title after a strong 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday. But they could actually be crowned champions as early as Wednesday night – even without playing.

That depends on what happens at the Emirates Stadium when Arsenal face Crystal Palace. The match was moved forward due to Palace’s upcoming FA Cup semi-final, and now it could decide the title.

Liverpool are currently 13 points ahead of Arsenal. The Gunners are their nearest challengers and kept up the fight with a win at Ipswich earlier on Sunday, but Liverpool responded swiftly with a win of their own thanks to goals from Curtis Jones, Luis Díaz, and a stunning free-kick by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Now, all eyes are on Arsenal’s next match.

What Liverpool Need

  • If Arsenal lose or draw against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, Liverpool will win the title.

  • If Arsenal win, then Liverpool will need to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday to seal the league.

Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk has said he and his teammates will be watching the Arsenal game together. Should the result go in their favour, it could be a night of celebration – and unlike 2020, fans will be able to join in. Liverpool’s last title win happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, with empty stadiums and no big party.

Arsenal’s Task

Arsenal have already beaten Palace twice this season – once in the Carabao Cup and then 5-1 in the league – and will be aiming for a third straight win against their London rivals. Victory would keep their slim title hopes alive.

But even then, Liverpool only need three more points to be sure – and they play Tottenham on Sunday. Spurs have struggled against the Reds this season, conceding 10 goals across two previous meetings.

What If It’s a Draw?

A draw would delay celebrations. Arsenal would still be 12 points behind with four matches left, meaning Liverpool would only need a single point from their remaining games to confirm the title.

Still, Van Dijk remains cautious. “I expect Arsenal to win at home,” he said, “but if it doesn’t happen, we’ll be ready to celebrate.”

So, by 10pm on Wednesday night, Liverpool fans could finally start celebrating – all depending on what Arsenal can do against Crystal Palace.
