Aruna Quadri thrashes Zhou Qihao at WTT Star Contender
Africa's number one ranked table tennis player qualifies for WTT semifinals
Aruna Quadri, Africa’s highest ranked table tennis player, has once again dominated headlines following a brilliant 3-0 win over China’s Zhou Qihao in the quarterfinal of the WTT Star Contender tournament in Doha, Qatar.
Aruna Quadri defeated the Chinese star 3-0 (11-8; 11-8; 11-7) to claim a third straight Chinese scalp in the tournament after wins in previous rounds against Liu Dingshuo and Zhao Zihao. The veteran table tennis star, who dropped to 14th in the world in the latest ITTF ranking, was dominant throughout the match. His topspin and ability to generate powerful loops helped him overpower his opponent.
Aruna Quadri will now face another Asian, South Korea’s world number 47 Lim Jong Hoon in the semifinal of the tournament for a place in the final. Quadri is the first African ever to reach the semifinal of the competition. He attained the highest ranking ever by an African last year and will be looking to replicate that level of performance.
