Asamoah Gyan wants to do a ‘Roger Millar’ in Qatar 2022
Asamoah Gyan is looking to follow in the footsteps of Cameroonian, African legend Roger Milla, come FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The former Sunderland striker hinted in an interview that he is yet to retire and available for selection should the Black Star needs his services.
In 1988, at the age of 36, Roger Milla announced his retirement from International football.
However, two years later the President of Cameroon Paul Biya, pleaded with him to come out of international retirement and rejoin the national team.
At 38, he rejoined the Indomitable Lions and scored four goals which he celebrated with his famous dance to help Cameroon to Africa’s first-ever quarterfinal finish.
Despite his increase in size and match game rustiness, Asamoah Gyan is ready to do a Roger Milla come November when the FIFA World Cup starts.
“Anything can happen. You know it’s happened before.
“I’m talking about Cameroon in 1994 with Roger Milla you know coming back from retirement to play in the World Cup. I haven’t retired yet.
“I haven’t announced my retirement. You know I’ve been out for almost two years now due to injuries, due to my body.”
Asamoah Gyan has not played for the Black Stars since 2019 and the last time he played in a competitive game was in May 2021 when he featured for Legon Cities against WAFA in the Ghana Premier League.
The Black Stars of Ghana have been drawn in group H alongside Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
