Ashwin seven-for punishes limp New Zealand to complete whitewash
A Ravichandran Ashwin seven-for helped India complete a series whitewash against New Zealand, as the Black Caps crumbled to a 321-run loss on day four of the third Test in Indore.
Following defeats in Kanpur and Kolkata, the tourists were left playing for pride in the final instalment of the three-match series.
However, it was India who dominated from the start – the hosts declared for a first-innings total of 557 thanks to the heroics of Virat Kohli (211) and Ajinkya Rahane (188), before leaving New Zealand requiring 475 runs from their second innings to secure victory.
But the Black Caps, who had earlier seen Cheteshwar Pujara deliver an unbeaten century as India declared for a second time, could only muster 153 before they were skittled with a day to spare, wrapping up a 3-0 series win for India ahead of the forthcoming five-match one-day series.
Ashwin’s 7-59 – career-best figures – added to his first-innings six-for to take him to a staggering 220 wickets from 39 Tests.
