Asisat Oshoala scores against former club Barcelona Femeni in Bay FC friendly
Super Falcons and Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala made a statement against her former club, Barcelona Femeni, by scoring the opening goal in a friendly at PayPal Park.
The 29-year-old forward, fresh from her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics with Nigeria, took the lead for Bay FC in the 17th minute.
The match marked Bay FC’s second-ever encounter with an international opponent, and Oshoala wasted no time showing her class. After intercepting a pass from Barcelona goalkeeper Gemma Font near the edge of the box, she calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
Barcelona quickly responded four minutes later when Ewa Pajor set up Kika Nazareth, who struck from the edge of the box to equalize. The first half ended in a 2-2 draw, but Barcelona’s superior firepower proved too much for Bay FC in the second half.
Following the match, Oshoala took to her X page to express her gratitude toward her former club, writing, “Forever My Family,” in a touching tribute to her time at Barcelona.
Bay FC will now return to NWSL action on Friday, facing Portland Thorns at Providence Park in Oregon.
